Extreme facts about fast food

To start off this blog, I want to highlight some extreme facts to inform readers about the growing fast food industry. Later in the blog we are going to elaborate more about the marketing perspective of the fast food industry. I recently found a website called Random Facts while I was searching for information pertaining to my blog. It is a website dedicated exactly to it´s name: random facts. This website had a plethora of facts, but I’m just going to tell you some that I found the most shocking.

  •        9 out of 10 American children visit a McDonald’s restaurant every month. This is approximately numbers, but it makes you realize how popular it is for kids to eat at McDonalds. Fast food restaurants market themselves to kids by offering kids meal such as McDonalds Happy Meal. We are going to elaborate more about how the fast food industry targets kids in another blog post.

  •        McDonalds does not want you to stay and socialize in their restaurant; resulting in prohibiting various types of entertainment like newspapers, arcade machines, candy machines, telephones and jukeboxes. The chairs are made to feel uncomfortable after a while so you will leave after you finish your meal.

  •        In 1990 manufactures made cars with cup holders because of the growing popularization of the drive-thru. As consumer bought larger drinks the cup holders got larger.

  •        Cocaine was originally included in Coca-Cola legally at the time it came out. It was originally served as a brain tonic and intellectual soda fountain beverage. It is obviously not served for the same reasons today.

  •        Meat and potatoes have been the core of American food since the eighteenth century. It is still the core of American food, but is now served as hamburgers and french fries.

  •        The largest purchaser of beef and pork is McDonalds. Not only in America, but also in the whole world.

  •        Children and teenagers consume more than 64 gallons of soft drinks per year. This number dramatically increases every year. Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are sold in every country in the world, except North Korea.

  •        The incline of obesity can be linked to the growing fast food industry. Center Disease Control estimates that 248.000 Americans die earlier because of obesity. Obesity is ranked as the second largest preventable death in the US (First is smoking).

  •        To burn off one serving of tater tots you would have to walk about 67 minutes. Tater tats were made to utilize potato shred left overs after french fries production.
